St. Joseph Ribbon Cutting

Saint Joseph - Jessamine Brings Care Closer to Home

On January 2, Jessamine County's long wait for a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week emergency care facility was over when Saint Joseph - Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center proudly opened its doors to the public, marking a milestone for the community.

In late December, several hundred people took a sneak peek at the new facility during an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Staff members provided guided tours through the 60,000-square-foot facility which not only features superior emergency services, but diagnostic imaging, laboratory services and offices for physicians and staff. Community members commented on the well-planned layout and design of the facility and their newfound peace of mind with having it so close to home.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Saint Joseph benefactor RJ Corman, of RJ Corman Railroad Group, shared a striking statistic of the need for such a medical facility in Jessamine County. He said there are 26 stop lights between Saint Joseph - Jessamine in Nicholasville and Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington— a long drive if you need immediate medical care, but the former route for many Jessamine County residents.

At the grand opening, Saint Joseph Health System CEO Gene Woods thanked the community leaders of Jessamine County who supported the development of the ambulatory care center, including Mayor Russ Meyer and Jessamine County Judge-Executive Neal Cassity. Also sharing their enthusiasm for a new beginning of medical care for Jessamine County were Chris Bowe, the administrator of Saint Joseph - Jessamine, Ken Haynes, president, and Secretary Janie Miller with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Nicholasville native Eddie Montgomery, of the country music group Montgomery Gentry, also shared in the grand opening celebration, which was attended by Jessamine County residents, community leaders and health care professionals.

Saint Joseph - Jessamine is located at 1250 Keene Road in Nicholasville, at the corner of US 27 and Route 169 on the Nicholasville bypass. The general information number is 859.887.4100.

Success of the first Biz to Biz Breakfast

The Jessamine Women’s Business Network and the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce hosted the first Biz to Biz Breakfast on November 18, 2008.

Twenty-two people were in attendance to have their questions answered by an expert panel of accountants and bank professionals. Our first Biz to Biz panel included:

From Express Accounting and Tax, Inc. --
Robert Scales, CPA
Daniel Tuz, Accountant
Susan Scott, Accountant

From First Southern National Bank --
Sam Lee, Community President
Suzanne Short, Branch Operations Manager

The panel covered the basics of tax classification, recordkeeping, business finance, and loans. Attendees reported the session was very informative, and helped clarify some of the issues faced as business owners. The session was relaxed with plenty of interaction between the panel and the attendees.

For more information on the Jessamine Business Women’s Network see the website www.jessaminebusinesswomen.com. Biz to Biz Breakfast is an educational series for small business created by the Jessamine Business Women’s Network and hosted by the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce.
